The First Camera Phone

Image
https://www.zdnet.com/google-amp/pictures/samsung-sgh-v200/ As much as we hate to admit it, as 21st century Americans, we take our phones for granted. After all, by the time we were old enough to care about technology, the IPhone had already been invented, so for the large majority of us, it’s the only camera phone that we’ve ever been exposed to. However, the history of the camera phone goes far beyond that fateful day in late June of 2007 when the first IPhone was created. In fact, we need to go back over half a decade before then to experience the creation of the first camera phone.  First released in June of 2000 by Samsung, the SCH-V200 was the first camera phone ever created. It was released in South Korea, and began a trend of many of the first camera phones being released in eastern Asian countries. As the first phone, it’s no surprise that the phone had multiple limitations. For example, the pictures taken on it were only viewable if hooked up to a computer. In addition, it

The 8 Values of Free Expression

https://www.showallegiance.com/blogs/news/how-old-is-the-us Of the 8 values of free expression, I find the protection of dissent to resonate most with me. As Americans, but more so as human beings, it only makes sense that we would disagree and have differing viewpoints. Not all of us are from the same background. Not all of us were raised the same way. Not all of us went through the same things. Therefore, it’s completely reasonable to assume that not all of us have the exact same ideas. If we did all have the same ideas, then we wouldn’t be able to make progress or develop as a country. That is why it’s paramount that we be granted this value of free expression, especially considering that it is our first amendment right. Without it, then we begin to move into the territory of compelled speech and compelled affirmation of belief.  Of the 8 values of free expression, I find the promotion of innovation to be the most important. In our growing world, technology is involved in nearly e

The Supreme Court

Image
https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/courtbuilding.aspx I learned from the first video that the Supreme Court receives over 100 new cases per week which equates to nearly 7,000 a year. I knew that the Supreme Court has always had their hands full with cases, but I didn’t know that they had this many to deal with. The most important takeaway point about the Supreme Court is its  authority. According to the History Channel article , the SCOTUS is “the highest federal court in the country and the head of the judicial branch of government” (History Channel). It also has the power to check the action of “the executive branch of the president and legislative branch of Congress” (History Channel).  I learned from the  first video  that even though the Supreme Court receives nearly 7,000 new cases a year,  only around 100 of them actually make it to the Supreme Court. Most of those 7,000 cases are petitions for certiorari, which are petitions that state a lower level court ruling wasn’t correct

My Top 5 Sources of News and Information

Image
In our current world, there are an infinite number of sources we can get information from and utilize on a daily basis. However, many people tend to gravitate toward just a few. I can confidently say that I fall under this category as I regularly utilize only a few sources to get information from. The following paragraphs will touch on my top 5. 1. https://www.foxnews.com/ Despite receiving a considerable amount of criticism for being a hyper-partisan right source, I find Fox News to be one of the most level grounded and least biased sources around. I use Fox News daily to keep up with current events, politics, and any other form of world news. I am especially utilizing it now to keep up with everything leading up to the 2024 Presidential Election in November. 2. https://www.youtube.com/ Before I go to bed at night, I often spend time perusing around YouTube. Most of the time, videos from different news sites (local news stations, Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight, ABC News) pop up
